Rescue story

WEACT received a report about dogs whose lives have been ignored for five years in the beautiful island of Jeju and rushed to the illegal dog farm. What was found was a heartbreaking scene. The farm, operated by the owner of a well-known restaurant, was overflowing with mountains of garbage, filth, and cockroaches. Seven dogs were confined in tiny wire cages which was so small they could barely lie down. The same hands that served food to customers, threw rotten food waste to these dogs. They dogs were neglected for five years in this cruel wired cage, so cleaning up their waste was easier. Not once had they been able to stand comfortably on solid ground, spending their lives waiting only for death. WEACT could no longer turn away from these dogs. We are determined to restore the simple rights they should always have had: clean food, a warm place to sleep, and a life filled with care. Now that they have escaped that hellish farm, we will stand by them until they can begin a second life as beloved family companions.

Personality

Soyeon is an adorable, all-rounded pup who has an abundance of affection and an impressively clever mind! She quickly learns tricks, picks up on what is happening around her, and understands what people are saying to her. After being told something just once or twice, she can quickly figure out the situation and adjust her actions. For example, when she is enjoying something delicious and is told, “Slowly~,” she will gently slow down. She can even do a “wait” command that she was never formally taught! Her natural intelligence appears in the cutest little moments, and watching her figure things out is enough to make anyone’s heart melt. But Soyeon isn't just a smart, well-behaved student. When she gets excited, she knows how to have fun and play with the best of them, and she happily shows off her adorable affectionate side. Even after enthusiastically playing, she knows how to settle down and wait patiently when needed. She is the perfect combination of playful energy, affection, and maturity.

With humans

Soyeon is a social girl who approaches unfamiliar people without much hesitation and quickly becomes comfortable receiving affection. Even when meeting someone for the first time, she is friendly and approachable. Spend a little time with her, and before long, she will happily come over to show you her adorable personality. Nevertheless, Soyeon does have some clear preferences when it comes to physical touch. She enjoys being touched on areas she finds comfortable, such as her head and body, but she does not like having sensitive areas, such as her rear end or hind legs, being touched. When Soyeon feels uncomfortable, she will let a growl to let the person know she doesn’t like it. This does not mean that she refuses all necessary handling. When something is important, such as brushing or grooming, she may be uncomfortable but will patiently tolerate it, showing a surprisingly mature side. She is a girl who communicates her feelings with honesty. A family who pays close attention to her subtle signals and respects her boundaries will be able to build a deep and trusting relationship with her. When she feels understood and comfortable, Soyeon will happily return that trust with even more love and affection.

With dogs

Soyeon is a lively, friendly girl who comfortably greets new canine friends and enthusiastically shows her affection with her whole body. However, sometimes her excitement can be overwhelming to another dog so she may occasionally miss the other dog’s signal to stop playing. With continued experience learning to watch and respect her playmate's signals and appropriately manage her energy, Soyeon can grow into an even more polite and well-mannered canine companion while keeping her naturally fun and playful personality.

Energy level

Walks 1-2 times a day, around 30 minutes each, is recommended for Soyeon so she an opportunity to release her physical and mental energy in a healthy way.

Needs help with

Soyeon would benefit from gradually experiencing different environments and learning to remain calm when exposed to unfamiliar sights, sounds, and other outside stimuli. She prefers relaxing in open spaces and may find enclosed spaces, such as crates or enclosed dog houses, challenging. Rather than forcing her to adjust, please help her build a positive association with these spaces through patient, comfortable, and rewarding experiences. Additionally, Soyeon may get too excited going outside. But, with consistent positive leash training, she should be able to walk in a more calm manner.

Soyeon is a lovable, expressive girl who isn’t afraid to show how she feels and clearly communicates whenever something makes her uncomfortable. She is ready to bring plenty of love, laughter, and happiness to her forever family. She would thrive in a family who respects her boundaries, pays attention to her subtle cues, and enjoys sharing new experiences and outdoor adventures with her. She can live either in an apartment or a house. But, what matters the most is having a loving, comfortable home. If there is another dog in the home, a calm and friendly companion who can match her playful personality and allow their relationship to develop at a comfortable pace would be ideal.
