Rescue story
WEACT received a report that dogs were being slaughtered in a small village in Jeongeup during Boknal, the hottest days of summer, when dog meat consumption still occurs in some regions. We rushed to the site at dawn, but sadly, two dogs had already been killed. After securing ownership of the remaining dogs, we began collecting the dead dogs to give them a proper farewell. During this time, we encountered a dog meat trader’s truck driving through the village, broadcasting that they were buying dogs. We tried to stop the truck with our bodies, shouting for it to halt, but it refused to stop at first. When the truck finally stopped, we found tools used for slaughter, including wire snares and raised cages. Inside the truck were three dogs. Without hesitation, we brought them into our arms. One of them was Daphne
Personality
When you call Daphne's name, she responds with a bright and gentle expression. She explores the world with her ears perked up, sniffing as she takes careful steps to approach and understand her surroundings. She naturally shows affection by leaning into your hands or softly nuzzling you. After sharing these tender moments, she happily looks forward to mealtime. She’s a charming little foodie with a warm and loving heart.
With humans
Daphne may take a moment to observe at first, keeping a small distance. However, her curiosity about people is always present. She listens closely and slowly moves closer at her own pace. With gentle touches, especially on her head, she gradually opens her heart. Once she feels safe, she will actively seek out people, leaning in and expressing affection. She is a truly loving companion.
With dogs
Daphne relies on her hearing and sense of smell to understand her surroundings. She can be sensitive to loud or negative reactions from other dogs. If she hears barking, she may become startled or react by hopping, even if she cannot locate the direction. However, she does not initiate aggression; she does not growl or bark first. Since she may become nervous around other dogs’ and cats’ barking, please reassure her so she feels secure.
Energy level
Although Daphne is currently blind, her sense of smell and hearing are highly developed. She tends to feel more comfortable and secure in a stable indoor environment rather than in unpredictable outdoor settings with unfamiliar sounds and scents. Please provide regular bonding and playtime as part of a consistent daily routine. Walking once or twice a day for about 30 minutes each is appropriate for her. She has good leash manners and especially loves sniffing during walks. When Daphne focuses on a particular spot, please stay close and ensure the area is safe as she explores.
Needs help with
Daphne is a smart girl. While she previously preferred outdoor potty, she can now indoor potty as well. However, she may have difficulty distinguishing between the soft texture of potty pads and other soft surfaces, like blankets or cushions. Please keep the pad in a consistent location and help her recognize it through repetition. Daphne does well with grooming - she is calm during baths and brushing. However, due to repeated blood draws at the vet, she has become sensitive about having her arms touched. Please approach her slowly and reassure her before touching her legs and paws gently.
Health specifics
Daphne is currently blind. She has a sensitive digestive system, so please check her condition regularly.
Ideal family
Daphne would do best with a family that can spend plenty of time with her. Because she cannot see, she may need time to adjust to a new environment. At first, she may bump into things or hesitate. During this time, it would mean a lot if you could gently guide her, helping her become familiar with her surroundings and explore safely. A simple home layout, where she can easily learn pathways, along with enough space to move around comfortably, will help her feel much more secure. Providing her with a cozy resting area and maintaining a consistent daily routine will also support her well-being. Please make time to bond and connect with her regularly. Daphne truly loves people playing with her, and showing affection through gentle touch will make her incredibly happy. She can live with another dog, but she may need a little extra time to open her heart. If you are willing to be patient and give her that time, she will grow into a wonderful companion and friend. Of course, but she would also thrive as the only dog, receiving all the love and attention. Daphne is waiting for a family who will walk beside her at her pace and create many beautiful memories together.
