Rescue story
WEACT received a tip about a rescue situation that led them to a quiet neighborhood in Suncheon, but their navigation didn't take them to some remote mountain hideaway; it led straight into a new town development. Right beside the peaceful daily lives of ordinary people, a brutal slaughter operation was taking place just steps away. The perpetrator carefully called out the names of his own pet dogs and lovingly fed them treats. He had even attached name tags with phone numbers to their collars so no one would mistake them for strays. Slaughterers often keep a select few dogs as "pets," calling them family and insisting they could never give them up. But that doesn't change the truth of who this person was: someone who could lovingly care for his own dogs with one hand, while ending the lives of other dogs just as easily with the other. WEACT moved with a single goal, to stop the slaughter, but by the time they arrived, the scene had already been cleared. Days earlier, after receiving a report, city officials had swiftly moved the dogs in danger of slaughter to the city shelter, saving their lives. Unfortunately, the slaughterhouse owner mobilized people to hastily tear down the site, erasing most of the evidence. WEACT rescued seven dogs in total: six who had been moved to the city shelter, and one more who had belonged to the slaughterer himself. There is no reason for lives capable of becoming family to be reduced to meat. We are giving these dogs new names, Danchu, Koa, Pako, Vinci, Huni, Hachu, and Hito, in place of "the slaughterhouse dogs," and working to find each one a loving home where they can finally live in comfort and peace.
Personality
Let us introduce Hachu, an affectionate sweetheart who loves human embrace more than anything else. She might seem a little shy at first, but before you know it, she'll be leaning into your arms, peeking her face out, and showing you her belly. Hachu generally has a calm personality, so when her other friends are getting petted, instead of pushing her way in, she'll wait a bit and then approach with a look in her eyes that seems to say, "Please pet me too!" If you approach slowly, matching Hachu’s pace, you might get to see her playful, mischievous side, nudging you with her nose and happily running around. Take the time to bond with her, and you're sure to discover Hachu's innocent, endearing charm.
With humans
When meeting new people, Hachu may quietly observe the situation or hang back at first, but with enough time and calm, patient bonding, she'll naturally open up her heart. Once trust is built, it's as if her earlier shyness never existed and she'll rest in your arms or happily smile while being petted! Since she loves being loved, showing her patience and consideration while spending plenty of time together will help her settle in even more securely.
With dogs
Hachu is a very socially skilled dog who gets along great with other friends, including cats! She naturally joins in during playtime and loves running around together with them. Thanks to her bright, easygoing energy, she’s expected to adapt easily even in households with other resident dogs.
Energy level
Hachu enjoys both indoor and outdoor activities comfortably. Light walks 1-2 times a day for about 30 minutes, along with indoor play sessions (since she loves toys), would be enough to satisfy her activity needs.
Needs help with
The outside world is unfamiliar to Hachu, so she is currently practicing leash walks and working on noise desensitization. As she gets used to the leash and learns more about the outside world, giving her plenty of patience and space will make her walks a pleasant experience. Hachu prefers to relieve herself outdoors, but if indoor potty training is needed, she will follow along well if you consistently teach her to go potty indoors.
Health specifics
Before Hachu was rescued, she had no food to eat and swallowed a stone, which led to her having gastric surgery. She has recovered from it and is now very healthy. Hachu can get anxious when riding in a car and could show symptoms like drooling. Providing plenty of rest and time to adjust during car rides will help her!
Ideal family
Since Hachu hasn’t had many experiences yet, she needs time to adjust to new environments. A guardian who waits by her side and offers encouragement will help Hachu gradually build her confidence. Whether or not there’s another dog/cat living with her isn’t a major concern either. Even as an only dog, Hachu can live a stable life as long as she's with her guardian. She may be cautious at first, but once trust is built, Hachu shows warmth and affection like no other. This sweetheart, who is bravely taking small steps to learn about the world, is waiting for a family who will stay by her side for a long time to come.
