Rescue story

On a bitter winter day when snow seemed ready to fall at any moment, WEACT sprang into action after hearing that there were dogs that had been left out in freezing temperatures. On the rooftop of a private home in Daejeon, 21 dogs were huddled together trembling in the cold, relying solely on each other's warmth to survive the fear and the chill. What had started as just one dog grew to 21 through neglect and endless cycles of pregnancy and birth, leaving them trapped on a frigid rooftop covered in nothing but trash and waste. After a long conversation with the owner, WEACT was able to rescue all 21 dogs, along with the puppies of a pregnant dog discovered on site, bringing the total to 25. As if cheering the dogs on toward their bright futures, heavy snow began to fall over Daejeon the moment the rescue was complete. We will never forget the beautiful snowfall that day. Now, Weact_Daru is ready to leave that rooftop behind and begin a new life, and we are waiting for the family who will open their hearts and home to him.

Personality

Meet Daru, lovingly nicknamed the “blank stare king,” who captures hearts with his gentle, blinking gaze. At first glance, he may seem calm and quiet, but he’s actually full of affection! Despite his composed expression, once his long hair is tied up, you’ll discover his sweet, expressive eyes shining with charm. The moment he receives attention, his round eyes light up, and his tail and even his whole body start wagging faster than anyone else’s, making everyone burst into laughter. And when treats are involved? There’s only one goal in mind, full speed ahead! Are you ready to experience all the honest, overflowing love that Daru has to give?

With humans

Daru may be a little shy at first, but he can’t hide his excitement and will approach you with a wagging tail. Once he feels your attention, he naturally opens up and expresses his affection most honestly. He might hop around like a little bunny to greet you, lean against you when sitting nearby, or simply relax while enjoying your touch. He loves being petted and will gently ask for more affection when you stop such a sweet and loving boy.

With dogs

Daru is generally social and gets along well with other dogs without major issues. However, in spaces he considers his own, he may show some guarding behavior, such as growling or barking at unfamiliar dogs. He can also be sensitive about his treats and may react if another dog tries to take them. When Daru shows signs of caution or guarding, calling his name helps him settle down and refocus. With time and positive experiences, he can continue to build stable and comfortable relationships with other dogs.

Energy level

Daru is not extremely active. He does well with 1–2 walks per day, about 30 minutes each. Most of the time, he enjoys resting or spending quiet time with his people. He would love a home where he can share calm, meaningful moments.

Needs help with

Daru may briefly whine when his person leaves his sight, but he settles quickly and waits calmly, such a good boy! He especially loves his 'crate', which he sees as his safe space. With just one cue, he will go right in and relax, even taking a nap with the door closed. He walks nicely on a leash and follows his person calmly. However, he may react to other animals during walks, so calling his name or gently redirecting him helps him refocus. He’s also very smart. When he needs to go to the bathroom, he may signal by scratching at the door. He has a high success rate with pee pads but prefers the outdoor potty. Establishing a consistent routine will be helpful. Since he already recognizes pee pads, with continued training, he can comfortably manage both indoor and outdoor potty.

Health specifics

Daru bravely completed heartworm treatment and is now living a healthy life. He generally tolerates grooming well. He may experience motion sickness during car rides, so it’s best to monitor his condition when traveling.

Ideal family

Daru has left behind his confined rooftop life and is now waiting for a family who will love him fully in a bigger, warmer world. Since the rooftop was all he knew, he was still gaining new experiences, and it would mean so much to help him discover that the world can be safe, kind, and full of love. He tends to be cautious in new environments and may appear a bit nervous at first. However, thanks to his gentle nature and love for people, he is expected to adjust quickly. A patient and warm-hearted family who can respect his pace, while offering consistent love and attention, would be ideal for him. Daru would thrive in a home where he can spend plenty of time with his family, enjoy different activities, and build happy memories through everyday moments. He can do well as an only dog, but having a canine companion could also provide him with comfort and companionship. He is waiting for a family who will embrace the overflowing love hidden behind his blank, gentle expression.
