Rescue story

#SaveUsProject is a long-term rescue initiative by WEACT, focused on saving dogs at risk of euthanasia in municipal shelters and caring for them until they find loving homes. Many of these dogs have already endured hardship, whether from life on the streets, accidents, or abuse. Even after arriving at shelters, they often remain unseen and continue to face an uncertain future. After coming across a dog with injuries and dried blood around the eyes, WEACT set out for the Nonsan animal shelter in January 2026. Upon arrival, the shelter was filled with the sounds of distressed dogs, and it was impossible to walk away with just one. That day, eight dogs were rescued, marking the beginning of the first #SaveUsProject rescue of the new year.

Personality

Meet Sesame, also known as “Black Sesame”! He has slightly scruffy fur, with a uniquely smooth, sleek head that makes him especially charming. When he hears his name, he comes running from afar with excitement. Sesame is full of bright, happy energy and has a way of lighting up the space around him. He closes his eyes and leans into you when he receives gentle affection, and he adapts quickly to new environments. In fact, he settled in perfectly just one day after being rescued. He’s truly a sweet and affectionate boy with an easygoing nature.

With humans

Sesame is a friendly and social boy who loves being around people, though he may be a little shy at first depending on the situation. In a group setting, he often approaches even unfamiliar people with a cheerful and affectionate greeting. In one-on-one situations, he may take a little more time to warm up. Once he feels comfortable, he opens up quickly and enjoys close interaction, including gentle affection and attention.

With dogs

“Playtime is the best time!” Sesame is very social with other dogs and gets along well with a wide range of friends. He gets along well with other dogs and loves to play. He becomes even more confident and lively when he’s around other dogs, so a home with a playful companion would make him especially happy. Watching him run around with his friends, you might wonder if all four paws ever touch the ground.

Energy level

Sesame is a very energetic and active boy. He needs at least two walks a day, and even after his walks, he still has plenty of energy for playtime, playing with toys or running around the house.

Needs help with

Sesame is still learning about designated potty areas and may go anywhere if not guided, so consistent potty training is needed. He has a positive association with his crate and is gradually learning to go in on his own. He can also find it a bit challenging to wait calmly when he gets excited, so he is currently working on building patience. With enough outdoor activity and consistent guidance, Sesame will continue to grow into an even more wonderful dog.

Health specifics

Sesame is in very good health. He does not experience motion sickness during car rides, though he may feel a little uneasy at times. He generally does well with grooming but may try to avoid it if handled suddenly by someone he is not yet familiar with.

Ideal family

Sesame would thrive in an active home that understands his bright, energetic personality and enjoys engaging with him. A family who can provide a good amount of walks and playtime, and enjoy interacting with him, would be a great match. Because he enjoys being around other dogs, having a resident dog could bring him even more happiness. Sesame will come running with his tail wagging when you call his name, bringing his bright energy into your home every day.
