Rescue story
WEACT received a report about a mother dog whose skin has been peeled, searching through trash to feed her puppies. The team rushed to help, but by the time they arrived, the mother had disappeared and the puppies had already been taken to a local shelter. Thankfully, the puppies were safely brought into WEACT’s care - but the team couldn’t leave the mother behind. After continued efforts, she was eventually rescued as well. At the same spot where the mother dog was rescued, we also rescued a stray puppy with an injured leg from the road. This puppy was Dareum. Hoping his cold and painful life on the streets would turn into a warm and happy one, he was given the name “Dareum,” which means “Different” in Korean.
Personality
Dareum has a naturally charming presence - being around him just feels peaceful. He will quietly come up to you, gently wagging his tail to show affection. Watching him walk on his short legs, sometimes showing off a little to get attention, is guaranteed to make you smile. Curious and eager to learn, Dareum is ready for a family who will show him all the good, beautiful things the world has to offer.
With humans
Dareum may be slightly shy at first, but because he truly loves people, that shyness doesn’t last long. Even if he tries to act cool, he cannot stop wagging his tail. First impressions and second impressions of Dareum are completely different!
With dogs
Dareum may get overwhelmed by other dogs’ attention. Rather than playing with his furfriends, he prefers receiving people's love, enjoying quiet time alone with treats in his favorite space. He has no aggression toward other dogs, but he doesn’t seek active dog to dog play.
Energy level
Dareum has difficulty using his hind leg due to an accident when he was young. His leg surgery was successfully completed, and now he needs practice to walk confidently anywhere. Dareum’s rehabilitation mainly consists of walking exercises through regular walks. Please walk with him at least twice a day to support his recovery. Help Dareum place his weight evenly on all four paws so he can stand and walk comfortably.
Needs help with
Dareum is currently practicing leash walks and relaxing in his crate. Because he spent his early days on the streets with an injured leg, many experiences are new to him. However, Dareum is highly motivated to learn and responds very well to treats, so he is expected to absorb training beautifully, like an ace student. His learning ability may surprise you!
Health specifics
Dareum suffered injuries to his leg and hip, likely from his time on the streets, and underwent femoral head ostectomy surgery. The surgery was successful, but since he had not used one leg for a long time, it can still feel a little awkward or unstable at times. Even so, Dareum never gives up. With a bright spirit and determination, he continues his rehabilitation with a smile and is bravely moving forward.
Ideal family
Dareum feels most comfortable in calm, familiar environments and may adjust best in an adult only home rather than one with young children. If there’s another dog in the home, a relaxed and gentle companion would be a good match. Nevertheless, Dareum is quite independent and may be happiest as an only dog, enjoying quiet walks and peaceful time with his family. He is looking for a family who will love him with soft voices, kind eyes, and gentle affection - someone who understands that quiet love is his favorite kind.
