Rescue story
In March 2025, WEACT rushed through the darkness before dawn after hearing that wildfires were spreading rapidly across southern Korea. With cars packed with water, food, and rescue equipment, the team headed toward Sancheong, unsure of how far the flames would spread. From that day on, the fire continued to spread relentlessly through Uisong and other places. Some dogs were able to run when the flames approached. Others, still tied to their leashes, could not. Unable to escape, they stood frozen in the intense heat, trapped where they were. Even the dogs that managed to flee collapsed from severe burns after enduring the unbearable temperatures. The dogs rescued from the Gyeongbuk wildfires survived just steps away from death, but many were left with deep physical and emotional scars. It was in the midst of this devastation that we met Panther. Despite everything he endured, Panther survived. Today, he is learning what safety feels like, discovering that gentle hands exist, and beginning to believe that life can be warm again. He is now waiting for a family who will never let him face fear alone again.
Personality
Panther is a sweet, adaptable, and gentle dog. Though he may be slightly shy at first, he quickly adjusts to new environments and warms up once he feels safe.
With humans
Panther likes people and enjoys being around them. While he may be cautious when meeting someone new, he quickly warms up and becomes very loving and affectionate.
With dogs
Panther gets along well with other dogs and does well in a group setting. However, he may occasionally get too excited. In those moments, gentle and calm guidance will help him settle down.
Energy level
Since Panther is young, walks twice a day is recommended. He loves playing outside with his furfriends, and that’s when he’s at his happiest—running freely and releasing his energy. An active routine will help Panther’s positive energy shine even more.
Needs help with
Panther is comfortable with a leash and harness and responds very well to treat-based training. While he has basic indoor potty training, continued guidance is needed since he may have accidents here and there.
Health specifics
Panther’s injuries from the wildfire have been treated, but scars remain on his ears and back. He is overall healthy but may experience mild motion sickness on long car rides.
Ideal family
Panther can be perfectly happy on his own, but if there is another dog in the home who enjoys playing with him, he would make an even more wonderful companion. Despite his young age, Panther already has excellent social skills and adaptability, and he has limitless potential to continue learning, experiencing new things, and growing. He is waiting for a loving and committed family who will share in his sparkling eyes, boundless energy, and angel-like heart for many years to come.
