Rescue story
On a bitter winter day when snow seemed ready to fall at any moment, WEACT sprang into action after hearing that there were dogs that had been left out in freezing temperatures. On the rooftop of a private home in Daejeon, 21 dogs were huddled together trembling in the cold, relying solely on each other's warmth to survive the fear and the chill. What had started as just one dog grew to 21 through neglect and endless cycles of pregnancy and birth, leaving them trapped on a frigid rooftop covered in nothing but trash and waste. After a long conversation with the owner, WEACT was able to rescue all 21 dogs, along with the puppies of a pregnant dog discovered on site, bringing the total to 25. As if cheering the dogs on toward their bright futures, heavy snow began to fall over Daejeon the moment the rescue was complete. We will never forget the beautiful snowfall that day. Now, Jigu is ready to leave that rooftop behind and begin a new life, and we are waiting for the family who will open their hearts and home to him.
Personality
Jigu is the type who gets to know the world at his own pace, slowly and steadily. Rather than jumping into things, he prefers to take a step back and observe. He is a thoughtful and gentle soul who loves spending quiet moments resting. But he has another side too! When the mood strikes, he'll zoom around the yard with pure joy, or pop up as if to say, "Hey, I'm here!" with a burst of cheerful energy. Jigu may be slow to open up, but once he does, he is a friend whom you can share a deep connection with.
With humans
Building a bond with Jigu takes a little time and patience. Rather than approaching people on his own, he tends to quietly observe from a distance and warm up gradually. Because of this, it's important to let him set the pace rather than closing the distance too quickly. His cautiousness isn't a rejection; it's simply his way of saying he'd like to get to know you slowly. Understanding that will go a long way in building a truly meaningful relationship with him.
With dogs
Jigu is a very sociable dog with other friends. He knows how to interact naturally and comfortably with other dogs. Jigue tends to maintain an appropriate distance when needed and his calm and mannerly approach makes him a stable and pleasant companion for other dogs.
Energy level
Jigu is not a high-energy dog, so one to two short and easy walks per day should be plenty for him. To help Jigu gradually get used to the outdoor environment, it would be more helpful to take several short walks rather than going out for a long time at once.
Needs help with
Jigu is a tidy boy who uses potty pads well. However, he nay have occasional accidents when his environment changes or something unexpected happens. Once he feels settled, he adapts quickly. He is also comfortable in his crate and rests there without any trouble. When going out on walks, he handles large vehicles and outdoor noises reasonably well, though he tends to stay more aware of the distance between himself and the person walking him. To help Jigu grow more comfortable with people, try building positive experiences through shared activities. Listening to his cues, moving at his pace, and gently working to build trust will make a world of difference for him.
Health specifics
Jigu is currently very healthy!
Ideal family
Jigu needs a family who will respect his pace and give him the space to open up in his own time. A calm and comfortable environment, paired with a patient and understanding caregiver, would be a perfect match. Since trust is something Jigu builds slowly, a family who can create positive experiences and invest time in the relationship will mean the world to him. Having a people-friendly resident dog in the home could also help Jigu adapt more quickly, as he tends to learn a lot from other dogs. That said, a family without other pets is absolutely wonderful too, as long as they are willing to follow his lead and wait for him. Jigu is not a dog who approaches quickly, but he builds a bond that is deep and lasting. Jigu is waiting for a precious family who will walk alongside him at his pace.
