Rescue story
#weact_marine was chained with a heavy iron chain, gazing into the distance with empty eyes. Her fur was matted and hardened with filth and dust, and the smell was so terrible it was hard to get close. Marine was originally raised by the owner’s son, but the “expensive” dog that had been so hard to acquire was eventually neglected and ignored because her family couldn’t handle her. Marine would carry a food bowl filled with grime into her doghouse, then sit on a dirty blanket to shelter from the rain, her eyes full of sadness. We hope that Marine’s gaze will once again be filled with bright, vibrant life, which is why we decided to name her Marine, evoking the blue of the sea. We’re looking for a warm family who can be with Marine forever.
Personality
True to her name, Marine is a mischievous ball of energy with charming eyes that are two different colors. Marine is playful and full of fun, but she’s also smart and quick to learn, performing basic commands like “sit” and “down” on her own. Being so clever, Marine also knows how to clearly show refusal towards things she doesn’t like. Living with a bright and active Marine, you’ll find it easy to get in sync and look forward to seeing her clever charm!
With humans
Marine loves people, approaching even strangers first with a wagging tail and happily welcoming warm touches and affection from everyone. Marine enjoys everything done with people, from everyday life to playtime and walks.
With dogs
Marine loves playing with other dogs. She shows less interest in calmer dogs who don’t pay much attention to her, and enjoys playing with lively friends much more. Sometimes, while playing, Marine can get a bit overexcited, but with appropriate redirection and control, Marine is an extremely social pup who can have a fun time with friends!
Energy level
Marine is an enormous bundle of energy and will need at least two walks a day. During walks, Marine does her business well in any environment and has good walking manners. Because of all her energy, Marine may still enjoy playing with toys or running around at home even after her walks. Marine especially loves active play like tug-of-war and fetch.
Needs help with
Marine will need to continue working on practicing self-control when overexcited and on building stable daily habits. Marine has been doing well going potty before and after walks and in her living space, and has almost no accidents. However, she’ll need to continue practicing staying calm even with outside stimulation. Also, Marine may start barking to ask for things. Rather than reacting right away when Marine barks, generously praise the moments when she calms down, and teach her that waiting gets her what she wants. If you can be a dependable leader who patiently fills in Marine's gaps, smart Marine will surely catch on quickly!
Health specifics
Marine had heartworn upon rescue but has completed her treatment for it. She had an umbilical hernia repaired and had her mammary tumors surgically removed. Her surgery was successful. The biopsy showed the tumor was malignant but at a low stage, so we are monitoring her with regular follow-ups. She has recovered well from the surgery and is currently in good condition.
Ideal family
An ideal match for Marine would be someone who can enjoy lots of fun activities with her. Marine would be best with a family who can give her plenty of time outdoors, and a larger sized home would help her feel more comfortable. If there’s another resident dog, a calm companion would blend well with Marine’s active personality. Marine hasn’t yet experienced living with babies or cats. We’re waiting for a guardian who will understand Marine’s intelligence, liveliness, and sincere heart, and who can give her both love and proper training.
