Rescue story

#weact_dewy spent her days chained beside a busy road at a gas station in Yeongwol, living on a small patch of concrete, covered in her own waste. Malnourished, her skin ravaged by sarcoptic mange, and patches of fur missing, she endured it all alone, with no owner or anyone checking on her, day after day. We gave her a new name, “Dewy,” and carried out the rescue right away.

Personality

Meet Dewy, with her charmingly fluffy coat! Her fur feels as soft as cotton under your fingertips, and with a faint pink glow showing through the white, she looks like she’s standing under a warm spotlight of her own. A gentle smile always rests on her face, and she adores people. Dewy’s gaze is full of warmth, always staying comfortably close to people and sharing affection. Dewy loves to lean into a plush cushion or blanket and receive pets, where she naturally shows her sweet, gentle, easygoing nature. After being rescued, Dewy was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive and painful bone cancer, which required amputating one of her legs. Even the day after that surgery, Dewy greeted her caretakers with a bright and cheerful smile as she settled into their arms. It was as if she was trying to reassure them instead of the other way around.

With humans

Dewy really loves people. Even with someone she's just met, she approaches first with a wagging tail to show she's happy to see them, and once she's comfortable, she follows people around and shows off her charm. Dewy especially loves being petted, and when you stroke her, she relaxes and leans into it. However, she's a little uncomfortable with belly rubs, so please wait until Dewy shows she's comfortable first, then touch her slowly. If you watch her signals and connect with her, you can share an even deeper bond.

With dogs

Dewy is generally friendly toward other dogs. When she meets friends, she reads their mood and joins in accordingly. However, when she meets dogs smaller than herself, she may seem awkward because she doesn’t yet know how to approach. Dewy may also be a bit flustered by dogs who come on strong from the start. It helps to keep plenty of distance and let her greet others slowly. Because Dewy loves people so much, there are times she doesn't show much interest in other dogs, but she respects other dogs' personalities and knows how to get along, and she naturally keeps her distance in uncomfortable situations. We believe that with calm meetings, she can build comfortable relationships with all kinds of friends!

Energy level

Dewy currently lives without her right front leg. She has adapted well to her body and goes about her daily life, but it's important to moderate her activity to reduce the strain on her other legs. Please take her on a walk about once a day, at a comfortable pace while checking her condition. Rather than setting a fixed time or distance, let her rest plenty depending on how her body feels that day. Indoors, please offer a variety of activities that are fun but easy on her body, such as nose work, treat-finding games, and light toy play. For Dewy, enjoying her time without overexerting herself matters more than moving a lot!

Needs help with

Dewy needs consistent potty training so she can comfortably potty indoors. Please set up a regular spot and routine, praise her generously when she does well, and teach her slowly. Her tension can rise the moment she senses something unpleasant is coming, such as being held or having a vet exam. When she needs medical care or treatment, using a cone is recommended so she can be treated comfortably and safely. Before and after vet visits, please give her favorite treats or a comfortable rest so that her experiences with the hospital gradually become more positive.

Health specifics

Dewy had her right front leg amputated because of a tumor. The surgical site has healed, and she has adapted well to living on three legs and is going about her daily life happily!

Ideal family

Dewy loves receiving human affection so we hope she can find a family who can give her lots of love and affectionate touch. She enjoys lying close to you and being petted, and will follow you around. Dewy is happy just by being together, so please shower her with endless, generous love! Dewy has adjusted well to daily life, but since she does everything on three legs, her living environment needs a little consideration to keep her body comfortable. A home where she doesn’t have to climb up and down stairs often, non-slip flooring, and flat walking paths would be ideal. We hope you'll focus not on what she can't do, but on finding ways to help her enjoy what she loves. Dewy waits on a plush cushion for the touch of a loving family, smiles her pretty smile when your eyes meet, and wags her tail to say she's glad to see you. She loves an ordinary, warm day spent with people more than anything, and we're waiting for a family who will spend lovely everyday moments by her side for a long time to come.
