Rescue story

In December 2019, the heartbreaking reality of severe abuse at #SiheungDogFarm came to light. Rescue efforts began right away with the help of other animal rescue organizations. However, on Christmas Day, when everything should have been calm and peaceful, the farm owner secretly relocated all of the dogs to another rural facility. After a determined search, WEACT was able to locate them and, through persistent effort and negotiation, safely bring them back. In the end, more than 60 dogs were rescued and given a second chance at life. Many of the dogs carried deep emotional scars and trauma from their past, and rebuilding trust required time, patience, and quiet courage. Nearly seven years later, WEACT and these resilient dogs continue to move forward, never giving up hope of finding their forever families. Gayoung is one of the survivors from this rescue.

Personality

Meet Gayoung, a shy yet curious girl. She has a gentle and cautious nature, but she’s naturally curious about the world around her. As she begins to open up, she shows her affection in the sweetest ways, a soft little nose boop, a gentle kiss, then quietly turning away. She is usually calm and relaxed, but in unfamiliar situations, she may stay close behind a person, looking for comfort and reassurance. Though she may seem reserved at first, the more you get to know her, the more she reveals her tender and loving side—and before you know it, she’ll completely melt your heart.

With humans

When her curiosity is sparked, Gayoung will gently approach and show interest with soft touches. She may be a little shy at first, so giving her time and space to adjust will help her settle in. As you build positive experiences together, she will gradually open up and feel more relaxed around you. She is comfortable with gentle touches on her back and neck but needs more time with her face and paws being touched. Being picked up or sudden movements can startle her, so it’s best to approach her gently and respect her pace.

With dogs

Gayoung takes her time building relationships with other dogs. She may seem a little awkward at first, but with time, she settles in comfortably around other dogs. If she meets a dog with a compatible temperament, she can also form a gentle and comfortable bond.

Energy level

Gayoung is happy with one to two walks a day, about 30 minutes each, which is enough for her to release her energy. She prefers relaxed strolls over running and especially enjoys walking on grass. At home, she also enjoys playing with treat balls and toys.

Needs help with

Gayoung is comfortable being on her own and does not show significant separation anxiety. She knows how to settle on her own and rest in her crate. She is still learning about designated potty areas. She prefers outdoor potty but with consistent training, she can learn to potty indoors as well. For grooming, it’s best to start slowly from her back. With calm, consistent handling, Gayoung can accept grooming and will stay relatively relaxed during nail trimming and ear cleaning.

Health specifics

Gayoung is currently in good health with no known medical issues. She does not experience motion sickness during car rides, but she tends to feel more secure when her crate is covered with a blanket.

Ideal family

Gayoung is a gentle girl who takes her time opening up, so she would do best with a family that can be patient and let her move at her own pace. As she begins to feel safe, she will begin to approach you on her own and show gentle affection. Watching her gain confidence over time can be incredibly rewarding. Gayoung can live happily as an only dog, but she may also do well with another calm, compatible dog who can offer gentle company. She would thrive in a home that enjoys quiet, relaxed walks and can gently support her as she builds confidence. With time, patience, and understanding, Gayoung will become a sweet addition to the family.
