Rescue story

In December 2019, the existence of Yumi—whose entire body had been burned due to horrific abuse—was revealed to the public. The place Yumi was believed to have escaped from was the Siheung Dog Farm. Other animal organizations immediately began rescue efforts, but on Christmas Day—a time that should have been peaceful—the farm owner secretly moved all the dogs to another rural facility. WEACT managed to track down where the dogs had been taken and, after persuading the owner, successfully brought them back. In the end, more than 60 dogs were rescued and saved. Most of the rescued dogs were left with severe trauma and deep emotional wounds caused by humans. Helping them heal required immense patience, courage, and unwavering commitment. Now, nearly seven years later, the dogs and WEACT have never given up and continue their journey to find loving families. Romeo is one of the dogs rescued from this site.

Personality

Meet Romeo — a well-mannered, effortlessly handsome boy. With snow-white fur that looks like fresh winter snowfall, Romeo has that quiet, handsome charm. He’s a calm and gentle soul who brings comfort just by staying close. Watching him slowly open up to someone who approaches him with patience is truly special. However, Romeo also loves heading out to the yard for a good run, letting off some steam and enjoying his playful moments:)

With humans

Romeo truly enjoys being around people and finds comfort in their presence. While he isn’t quite the type to actively seek out human touch yet, he has made steady progress and does well when someone approaches him slowly, gently, and with respect. Because of what he’s been through, sudden contact can make him uncomfortable, but he will quietly allow interaction when he feels safe. Grooming isn’t his favorite, but he accepts it calmly and patiently. Romeo will thrive with people who move at his pace, patient, thoughtful, and never in a rush.

With dogs

Romeo is friendly with all dogs and has the calm, reassuring presence of a big dog. He gets along well with his adoption center friends and enjoys being part of the group. If he were to live with another dog, a quiet, calm companion—rather than a very energetic one—would suit him best.

Energy level

As a big dog, walks and outdoor exercises twice a day is recommended. He especially loves going out to the yard, and you can really see his happiness shine when he’s under the warm sunshine.

Needs help with

Romeo tends to take some time to adjust to new environments. His walking style can vary depending on who is walking him. He will benefit from more experience with leash walk practices. He prefers to go to the bathroom outdoors, and thus, indoor potty training will be needed.

Health specifics

Romeo is currently very healthy. However, he tends to experience car sickness during the long rides.

Ideal family

Romeo is waiting for a family who can share a quiet, calm space and build trust slowly over time. He can be sensitive to loud noises and needs a little extra time to adjust to new environments, so a guardian who can patiently move at Romeo’s pace would be a wonderful match. Because he enjoys being active, Romeo would be happiest in a home where he can go on walks and get exercise at least twice a day. A house with a yard, or a home close to parks or open fields, would be ideal—somewhere he can walk, run, and rest together under warm sunshine. More than anything, what Romeo needs is unhurried love. A family willing to share the quiet moments, watch him slowly open his heart, and become his lifelong companion would be warmly welcomed.
