Rescue story

In December 2019, the existence of Yumi—whose entire body had been burned due to horrific abuse—was revealed to the public. The place Yumi was believed to have escaped from was the Siheung Dog Farm. Other animal organizations immediately began rescue efforts, but on Christmas Day—a time that should have been peaceful—the farm owner secretly moved all the dogs to another rural facility. WEACT managed to track down where the dogs had been taken and, after persuading the owner, successfully brought them back. In the end, more than 60 dogs were rescued and saved. Most of the rescued dogs were left with severe trauma and deep emotional wounds caused by humans. Helping them heal required immense patience, courage, and unwavering commitment. Now, nearly seven years later, the dogs and WEACT have never given up and continue their journey to find loving families. Jerry is one of the dogs rescued from this site.

Personality

After being rescued, Jerry spent a long time at a training center, working hard every single day. He focused on learning one thing above all else: how to be brave. With high levels of anxiety, Jerry used to freeze completely at the sight of people, unable to move at all. Now, he is able to take food gently from his trainer’s hand, and he can comfortably share the same space with people he has met multiple times. Jerry has a soft, gentle nature and always yields to his dog friends—but not because he is fearful. He is simply a dog who loves peace. A peace-loving soul who is learning courage step by step, Jerry already has all the qualities of a hero who could save a troubled world. All that’s missing now is his family.

With humans

Despite his fear, Jerry has come a long way to start opening up to people and learning to trust them. It may take some time for him to warm up, but with his consistent training, he has made remarkable progress.

With dogs

When Jerry goes out into the yard with his friends, he happily runs around, plays, and also knows how to relax. With his calm and gentle personality, Jerry gets along well with all other dogs. He isn’t overly focused on other dogs and patiently accepts play or playful behavior from them.

Energy level

Jerry may still feel unsure around people, but with time and steady bonding, he can enjoy walks with people. After a strong connection is formed, one light walk or short potty walk a day would be a nice way for Jerry to get some fresh air and reset. Jerry recharges best when he has quiet time to himself, so having a cozy space of his own will help him feel safe and comfortable.

Needs help with

Jerry prefers outdoor potty, so a home with easy access to nearby walking areas would be ideal. Even when he’s trembling, Jerry tries his best to accept grooming, and understanding his effort is important. Rather than focusing on special training, we hope his family can first offer him a sense of safety and stability within the home.

Health specifics

Jerry is overall healthy and eats well.

Ideal family

The final piece missing from Jerry’s puzzle is a family who will love him. We may never know everything Jerry went through, but with a family who can quietly comfort him and offer patient, steady love, he’ll find the courage to keep growing. Because of his past, Jerry is understandably afraid of loud noises, sudden movements, and unfamiliar people. We hope his future family will truly understand this—and feel their hearts soften at even the smallest signs of bravery he shows. Jerry would do best as the only dog in the home, but he could also live happily with a calm, gentle canine friend. For most dogs, simple joys like taking treats or enjoying pets come easily, but for Jerry, these are still big steps. He’s waiting for a family willing to face those steps with him, with courage, patience, and love.
