Rescue story

In December 2021, WEACT uncovered a large-scale illegal puppy breeding facility known as the #Namyangju Breeding Farm Village. More than 280 dogs were found living in extremely poor conditions—confined to raised wire cages, surrounded by their own waste, and left to suffer both physically and emotionally. Many of the dogs were forced to endure repeated pregnancies and long periods of confinement. Their condition revealed the painful reality behind puppies often seen in pet shop windows. Eddie was one of these dogs. He had been tied near the entrance by the breeder to act as a guard. At the time of rescue, Eddie was extremely sensitive to touch and reacted defensively, likely due to trauma from past abuse. With the help of multiple organizations and countless volunteers, WEACT was able to secure full relinquishment of ownership for all the dogs. Eddie and the others were finally given the chance to begin a new life—free from cages and fear.

Personality

Meet Eddie - a smart, observant, and thoughtful boy. Eddie is highly intelligent with excellent awareness of his surroundings. He quickly reads situations and is especially good at sensing the emotions of people around him. Because of his sensitive nature, he may approach new people or unfamiliar environments with caution at first. Eddie values his personal boundaries, and trust takes time. When approached with patience and respect, his gentle, charming, and affectionate personality truly shines.

With humans

Even if Eddie approaches someone on his own, he may react defensively if touched too quickly. He prefers to build trust gradually and at his own pace—this is simply how he forms meaningful connections. Once he feels safe, Eddie enjoys human affection and attention. He often shows his happiness quietly, staying close and calmly asking for more love. A guardian who respects his pace will be rewarded with a deep and stable bond.

With dogs

Eddie generally does well with dogs of a similar size and calm temperament. However, he is uncomfortable around large or overly energetic dogs, especially large black dogs. Careful introductions are important. When interacting with timid or passive dogs, Eddie may follow them closely and attempt to initiate play, so supervision in group settings is recommended.

Energy level

Eddie is an active and energetic dog who loves walks and playtime. He will likely need at least two walks a day. He especially enjoys catching treats tossed to him rather than taking them calmly. ♥

Needs help with

Eddie is working hard to grow into a wonderful companion. His potty training is ongoing and consistent guidance and training are important. House training is also ongoing. Because Eddie enjoys having his own safe space, kennel training can be very effective in helping him feel secure and adjust more quickly. He may show some possessiveness over his space, so gentle, patient training, mindful of his rescue background, is especially important during the early stages. Eddie generally tolerates grooming well, but he does not like having his belly touched.

Ideal family

Eddie thrives with a guardian who can give him focused attention and is attentive to his emotional cues. He prefers meaningful interaction and shared time over being left alone. Considering his clear dislikes and sensitive nature, a calm and thoughtful household would suit him best. He may adapt to a multi-dog home, but the temperament of the resident dog will be very important. Eddie may not fall in love quickly, but once he does, he loves deeply and wholeheartedly. Smart, affectionate, and full of quiet charm, Eddie is waiting for a forever family who will truly understand, respect, and cherish him.
