Rescue story
In December 2019, the #SiheungDogFarm entered the spotlight as the story of Yumi emerged—a dog that miraculously escaped with extensive burns covering its entire body. Another animal welfare organization initially launched a rescue operation, but on Christmas Day, the owner transferred all the animals to a different dog farm. Although their whereabouts remained elusive, persistent efforts eventually convinced the farm owner to surrender them. However, the time spent in slaughterhouses had inflicted profound trauma on these dogs. Taking charge of the situation, WEACT and volunteers provided ceaseless day and night care, leading to the successful rescue of 60 animals from the #SiheungDogFarm. Due to their profound trauma and injuries inflicted by humans, it necessitated an extended period of time and heightened effort to rehabilitate them. Even four years down the line, WEACT remains steadfast in its mission to facilitate the adoption of dogs from #SiheungDogFarm. #weact_matthew was one of the rescues from this very location.
Personality
Matthew may seem calm, often enjoying sunbathing under the warm sunlight, but when he plays with his friends, he becomes full of energy. After breaking free from the restraints of a past where he could never be close to humans, his once fearful memories of people have grown faint. Now, Matthew has become an adorable pup who approaches people on his own, lingers nearby, and even gently takes treats from their hands.
With humans
Matthew is no longer simply afraid of or hostile toward people. However, he still looks cautious and shows a reserved attitude toward unfamiliar people regardless of gender. You can approach slowly and pet him, but he does not yet seem to enjoy grooming.
With dogs
Matthew gets along cheerfully with both small and large dogs.
Energy level
Although calm by nature, considering how playful he is when playing with friends, about one walk per day should allow Matthew to expend the right amount of energy.
Needs help with
Matthew needs leash training. Because he has only recently allowed people to get close to him, his overall training is still incomplete, so it would be good to become well acquainted with him first and then gradually carry out training. He prefers to eliminate outdoors, so if indoor toileting is required, training for that will also be necessary.
Health specifics
Matthew is healthy!
Ideal family
Matthew often shows a bright, innocent smile when he’s with friends, and he has sometimes managed training parts he found difficult by watching and copying his friends. While not strictly necessary, having a friendly, active companion dog could greatly help Matthew adapt to home life. He is a dog who, after overcoming the horrific past of a dog farm, has finally begun to smile brightly. He once thought a human hand would only lead to death, but now he has begun to believe that hand can save and comfort him. Although he is still unfamiliar and clumsy with playful back-and-forth with people, we earnestly hope he will meet a forever family and live giving and receiving the closest companionship.
